and continue to consider this, that we have ways to use it with measuring things to be accountable and adjust if need be to light on our feet, I guess.

Just did we really get a, if you could talk a little bit about that, we get a swath of the community and not the same folks that come over and over and over again.

So there were significantly more survey responses in earlier rounds.

People are free to engage with comments on social media, but coming to these meetings or filling out these surveys is really declining these days.

There will then be disagreement between community members on what's the best way to actually implement these big ideas.

So you can get disagreement when you talk about things like funding, but at least you get the goal of common purpose.

I think you'd find that I'm not making it up that way.

And so I would encourage you to be very specific when it does refer to both, to put both.

And so with that, open it for anyone has any specific comments that they want to take.

And since there are currently no rezonings in the rural area, there are no coffers.

I think in the rural area, it's much more about preserving things that we have as opposed to constructing things.

We only have maybe one acre.

Well, Lonnie, could you just for those who may be listening say what the Dell is?

So as opposed to the out of sight, out of mind method where we take streams and put them underground,

There are a number of things in here that I feel, at least at their face value,

It's easier.

Just think about the climate action plan, that's not the name of it, but they have very clear goals for carbon neutrality and I think thinking about that and how that gets put into this policy so that we can then get back to that accountability and measurability through the process.

And we're just working around the room.

Which, where are we in the working room?

I just want to say I think we should be honest about who we are as an ag business and that we're not going to be a breadbasket.

I agree, and so here's where my point is.

So what all I'm suggesting is that the narrative about our ag business here needs to not be, needs to not

sound over-optimistic or over-representing of what's possible.

It's not the business separate.

if we're trying to sort of blend those ideas across our jurisdiction then some of that work needs to take place in the things that we build and how we encourage people to build and what do we do with that and then there's my piece about can we just be honest about what kind of ag business goes on here and it's not about being a breadbasket even though there's boutique farms here that do that but it's not it's not about being a breadbasket it's about providing other kinds of agricultural business cultural resources

So does that take us through the first one?

And I think the understanding of how those two hands play together, I think, is very important.

That has to come through.

And to me, there's always a third, sort of less known and forgotten area, which are the boundaries.

Right, the intermix, the something, we call that the one land urban interface.

But if you're saying you had one development right, and now you're going to be able to put a duplex there, now you've doubled the density of the world area.

I mean, I don't really know that I have anything specific.

I think that's important and matching that with reality.

So I'm going to sort of break up my thoughts in a couple of pieces here.

I'm going to reopen the Toll House.

And some places, if you want to do that, you buy the air rights.

And I just can't sort of sustain that much longer.

there are now classes and yoga and cooking and small business stuff and all kinds of things are happening there but that could have happened there before that could have happened there before that could have been after school stuff there was you know so reinvesting in that community is is still is still possible way beyond just anti-school so I'll leave it at that I don't want to sound like I'm self-serving my community there are other places like this okay

I'll just add the importance of broadband and defining that vision for an equitable community since it's so vital to our education needs and work needs and so forth.

I mean, I haven't clocked.

One thing I think is very important to mention, you know, like our work with the Central Water Conservation District, we've encountered families in the early years... Can we move on?

Is this the next section?

houses, particularly in the rural area, helping, you know, once again, that preservation versus restoration, helping people preserve their older house in the rural area is way of preserving affordable housing.

Yeah, to just say that.

I think in terms of the comment about the baseball store, the reason that the baseball store, one of the reasons they struggled was because of lack of septic, trying to fit the septic on that small area.

But if I'm living in a place that I have a house here or a house there or a house there or I have vacation homes, which some of those houses have turned into vacation homes, then I'm not going to make that investment because I can't make the money.

There was a past history of some of these areas, you know, we had developed and sprawled out further into the rural area, and one of the reasons we backed away from that was because we couldn't supply them water, we couldn't provide them separate.

We can continue for as long as you guys like to.

You all would have to be in lane a little bit before 6 so we could start the next meeting.

So, what are we going to say?

Maybe not, maybe just a thought, but I would recommend forwarding it to the board of supervisors.

Perhaps we need a new strategy in some of these areas.

Well, we've had Senator Runner present, so we can keep going.

I need, within the area where I can control people, where I want to put people, I need sidewalks to get them from A to B. I don't need a bicycle trail when I'm trying to get somebody on the sidewalk, so that they're not walking in the street.

How do we deal with the existing things that we have and improve them in a way that they're measurable?

Would you give me 100 miles of sidewalk, I can move a whole bunch of people.

But I don't have, don't get me wrong, I would love to see regional greenways in the rural area.

And I do think, but I don't think it covered me for me.

The idea of the county investing.

First you said like VDOT and what did you call them?

Oh, service providers.

I do think that there's ways to deal with what may seem as two things that are opposing forces.

But here's my problem on that.

Someone looked at the BLS data and the bureau label supply of labor statistics for this area.

And the median wage here is $59,000.

So I'm looking at, are we a place that can actually generate it, that actually can have an impact on the tax place because this is going to cost money, and how many, where are you going to get the money from, and sort of what's our labor market look like, and that kind of stuff.

That's not just the individual.

I'm looking at a job in Albemarle, in the Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Month.

Well, that might be.

So that's even below the mean wage for the area.

What's this like?

I wrestled with this whole thing.

It's a simplified way of thinking about it, but I think it's such a good way.

So that's not going to be the way.

Sure.

There are a lot of opportunities in that.
